What I Like About Today…

Each night — well, most nights at dinner time amongst all the wild, crazy outbursts of our noisy children, we each take a turn to share what we like about the day. This is no small task! We have some children that like so much, we have to cut them off. Other children that think this time is to complain about things they don’t like. And then there are those that simply like that “I played.”

You would think that with over six years experience our children would know the routine, fall in line, take their turn, and the rest would be history. But um, NO, that would be asking too much. They are children after all.

Despite the chaos, and the complaining teen that it’s taking too long, I love these moments. Each day I get to hear something that they felt was special. I get to hear about the science experiment at school, the game they made up with their sibling, the lesson at church, the kid on the play ground that was nice to them, and, as of recent, the school crush that said he liked her hair down.

It’s a time as a family to reflect on something enjoyable each day, a reality that even on bad days there is and can be something good. Sometimes in our lives, we may feel that the day is wasted, or that there wasn’t anything bright or joyful in it, but we are wrong. There always is. I’ve been guilty a time or two on days with much trial to say, “What I like about today is nothing,” only to quickly realize that there is something.  I like that I got up. I liked the sunrise or sunset. I like that the car started. I like that I have my beautiful family. I’m grateful for trials that teach lessons or pave pathways to new opportunities. Being grateful in any situation isn’t always easy but a much needed lesson in life.

So sitting here with much trial going on in our lives right now, what I like about today…

I like that I have a family who loves and adores me. I like that we have the things that are needed for us. I like that tomorrow will bring a new sunrise…

OMG. What is there to say?Does this mean that his mother was a conservative republican and his father was a liberal democrat.I mean she kept him and the father allowed him to be raised on food stamps and welfare.
